I didn’t have to look it up in the internet in order to know that mangoes are currently not in season. I have three mango trees at home, and I have lived in Florida for almost five years. I know they are not in season. However, I’ve seen mangos (as well as other fruits) available at the farmers market on campus that violate seasonality. I went to a farmers market at Wynwood, and there were also mangoes. A farmers market is meant to be a place where food is sold almost directly from farmers to consumers. It is meant to reflect local culture and economy, and promote sustainability. Farmers market reduce transportation, and storage while selling fresh and seasonal foods. However, what is the point if there are things that are being imported from other places? This no longer qualifies as a farmers market, but rather it is a supermarket on a stand. With higher prices.
